Plasterer

Before contacting a business

A small patch, a skim over existing walls and replacement of damaged plaster are different requests. Identify the rooms and approximate affected areas. Tell the contractor about visible damage and previous work without claiming to know the underlying cause. Ask whether a site visit is needed to assess the substrate and adjoining surfaces.

Questions for your shortlist

• Is the request patching, skimming or a larger replacement?
• What is known about the existing surface and damage?
• How will drying time and readiness for decorating be explained?

Check protection, preparation, corners and edges, disposal, the expected finish and whether decoration is included or arranged separately.
